So when Simone asked my husband and I whether we would like her to be present at the birth, I welcomed the idea, as well as thinking “I don’t want someone I don’t know well to see me at my worst”. I shouldn’t have worried. Simone was an angel. By her very presence she instilled a tranquility that was amazing. No one asked her to do anything but she was always busy. Whether it was giving me a massage, making cups of tea for my husband who kept falling asleep, changing the music or burning oils she seemed to float in the room like an angel. Even the midwives enjoyed having her present. Since then I have heard that she has become a doula. I genuinely believe that having Simone present at a birth can only add to an already wonderful and joyous experience.
